2013 Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari

Dear Safarist,

We are delighted to invite you to the 2013 Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari by sharing a true "Outback Adventure" with friends, old and new!

Our 23rd year of going on Safari will be celebrated with a trek to Uluru and will take in some of the great sights of three states (NSW, SA and NT) with the "Ridge to Rock" trip.

It's going to be a big year taking in such sights as Broken Hill, the Oodnadatta Track, Kings Canyon, the Big Rock at Uluru, Coober Pedy and many other places off the beaten track.

Living in such an arid country we know just how much this change in season means. We can 'feel' the energy of the bush & people, we hope you will share it with us!

We are travelling down to Silverton then up to Maree to start the Oodnadatta Track before heading north to Kings Canyon and Uluru. From there it's time to head south by Coober Pedy and finishing up at Broken Hill.

Due to the large distances involved there will be two registration points this year. This allows for people that live to the east or south to reduce their amount of kilometres by not having to travel up to Lightning Ridge. Should you wish to join us at Silverton there is a fee reduction to allow for that. Your favourite Bush Safari evening entertainment will be on tap with activities that could include a trivia night, theme nights, the unforgettable Talent Quest - or you can just have a yarn around the campfire!

The Safari will again be supported by local volunteers from the Ambulance, SES & Police Services as well as a mechanic who will all do their best to keep you safe and happy while enjoying the challenges of outback driving.

All this adventure and fun does have a serious side though! A quarter of all money raised by your entry fees and games/fines en route go directly to the Lightning Ridge SES and the balance goes to local initiatives to benefit the young people of Lightning Ridge. So bring your small change (gold coins) and holiday with us knowing that you are positively contributing to our remote community and also to those through which we pass!

What does your entry fee go towards, apart from the donations to the local community, some of our costs are but not limited to our insurance, general administration costs, printing and postage, trip planning with an average over 50% of the registration is camping fees.

One of the biggest differences of joining our adventure is that you need not worry about anything, the route is planned, all you need to do is follow the kangaroos and read the supplied information booklet, all your camping sites are organised and paid for, saving you another headache. There is no queuing to book into and pay at each location, you simply turn up and set up camp and the next morning pack up and head off.

Unfortunately this year we have had to raise the registration fee to $1000. There a several factors for this reason but the biggest contributor is we are going to some high tourism areas and they come with high tourism prices and we have no alternative but to pay those fees.

The Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari will be assisting with the organization of meals this year. There will be three types of meals this year, there will be no meals provided or organized on rest days.
   1. Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari provided meals
   2. Meals provided by an external party at most locations
   3. Final night presentation & charity auction dinner
